Akita AK 851 is a barbed hook for wet flies with an extremely short shank. Its shape is especially suited to soft-hackle patterns, glo-bugs and short nymphs, including gold-bead nymphs.

Design and use

The extremely short shank and extra-wide gape support compact patterns with substantial volume relative to hook length. The downturned eye lets the materials sit close to the front of the body. Leave clear space around the eye and keep the abdomen short and proportionate when tying. The bronze finish suits the natural, subdued colours commonly used in wet flies.
