Akita Fly Hooks
( number of products: 63 )Akita is Taimen's own fly-hook brand, introduced shortly after the shop was established in the early 2000s. Over more than two decades the range has developed from everyday trout hooks into a broad selection for dry flies, emergers, nymphs, jigs, wet flies and streamers.
The family includes barbed and factory-barbless models. Use the model code to identify a construction, not a hook size; the selected size remains a separate variant.

Why Akita was created
Akita was developed to provide practical fly-hook shapes for patterns tied and fished regularly by Taimen customers. The range focuses on recognisable applications rather than one supposedly universal design.
Reading Akita model names
The model number identifies a hook family and geometry. Additional letters can describe a feature, with BL normally indicating a barbless version. The size following the model determines the variant within that family. Always check the individual card because code patterns assist navigation but do not replace the specification.
Core applications
- light and standard hooks for dry flies and emergers;
- curved and straight nymph constructions;
- jig hooks compatible with appropriately slotted beads;
- wet-fly and scud shapes;
- longer and stronger hooks for streamers.
Barbed and Akita BL hooks
A factory-barbless BL point is made without a barb and allows efficient hook removal. A barbed version provides the conventional retaining projection and may be debarbed where its design and condition permit. Fishery rules take priority.

- Select the fly type and intended profile.
- Choose straight, curved or jig geometry.
- Match wire and gape to the target fish and materials.
- Check bead fit where one is used.
- Select barbed or factory-barbless construction.
- Compare actual proportions before deciding the size.
