Dr Slick 4.5 Gold Barb Clamp
Dr Slick 4.5 Gold Barb Clamp is a compact fishing forceps developed chiefly for crushing hook barbs. Its straight, completely smooth jaws close around the barb from both sides, while the short, powerful shanks deliver controlled pressure. At 4.5 inches long, the tool is easy to handle when working with smaller flies and takes up little room in a waistcoat pocket or tackle bag.
The clamp can also be used for removing hooks from fish and for securely holding hooks or other small items of tackle. Generous finger loops provide positive control, and the ratchet closure allows the jaws to remain locked at the selected setting. Gold-coloured loops make this version easy to identify among tools with darker finishes. The clamp is made from Japanese 410 stainless steel with a Rockwell hardness of 42.
To flatten a barb, place it squarely between the smooth faces and increase the pressure gradually, taking care not to twist the hook. After fishing, rinse and dry the clamp, paying particular attention to the hinge. Following use around salt water, wash it thoroughly in fresh water and apply a small amount of oil to the moving joint before storage.
