Ewing Whole Saddles
Ewing Whole Saddles are complete saddles intended primarily for streamer wings and other streamer components. Saddle feathers provide length, a smooth profile and movement in water. Ewing Grizzly Saddles add a characteristic barred accent to patterns. Compared with a cape, a saddle concentrates longer feathers in fewer size groups, so it is selected mainly according to the planned wing length. The whole-saddle format also makes it easy to choose repeatable feathers for successive flies.
Construction and use
A feather can form a single wing, a side accent or a layered element suggesting a baitfish outline. Grizzly barring introduces contrast and visible stripes. Choose a feather with suitable length and width for the fly, then check the barb alignment before securing it. A correctly selected feather moves in the water without unnecessary twisting of the wing.
