FFGene Nutria Dubbing
FFGene Nutria Dubbing has sharp hair that is useful for building clearly textured, more heavily furred fly components. This character makes it a strong choice for case caddis patterns, where an irregular surface is desirable, as well as for medium and larger flies of various types. The hair creates profile and texture efficiently, so only a modest amount may be needed for a substantial body.
Construction and use
A dubbing loop is the most practical way to distribute the sharper fibres evenly through a fuller body. Once twisted, brush the material out and trim it with scissors to establish the intended outline. For smaller sections, use very little dubbing and tighten it carefully on the thread, since the coarse hair builds volume quickly.
- Character: sharp hair produces a pronounced, open texture.
- Patterns: especially suitable for case caddis flies.
- Fly sizes: medium and larger patterns of different types.
- Technique: a dubbing loop, brushing and trimming help control the profile.
