FFGene Poly Wing Yarn
FFGene Poly Wing Yarn is a hank of long synthetic fibres with a fairly stiff, finely crimped texture. The fibres are approximately 35 cm long and 0.09 mm thick. They are intended for streamer, pike and saltwater fly wings, where a distinct profile is formed by selecting, securing and trimming a bundle to suit the pattern.
Construction and use
Select a small, even bundle and separate only enough fibres to create the required wing volume. Align the ends, secure the bundle to the hook shank with controlled thread wraps, then shape the wing by tapering or trimming its profile. On larger flies, a few light anchoring points can help stabilise the material before the final cut. Match both sides carefully so the finished wing remains balanced during casting.
- Material form: long, parallel synthetic fibres supplied in a hank or bundle.
- Dimensions: approximately 35 cm long and 0.09 mm thick per fibre.
- Texture: fairly stiff and finely crimped, allowing the bundle to be aligned and shaped by trimming.
- Suitable uses: streamer wings, pike fly wings and saltwater fly wings.
- Finishing: adjust bundle size to the fly, secure it with even thread wraps and trim only after checking the wing profile and symmetry.
