FFGene Regent Vice Revolving w/Base
FFGene Regent Vice Revolving w/Base combines fast spring-action jaws with a freestanding pedestal. It is intended for tiers who prefer not to clamp a vise to the edge of a desk or who want to move the complete station easily. Place the base on a flat surface, set the head position and begin tying. When the session is over, the vise can be moved aside without releasing a clamp, a useful advantage when the table also serves other purposes.
The jaw mechanism is operated by a lever: pressing it opens the jaws and releasing it applies the holding force. There is no need to reset the opening with a screw every time the hook changes, so replacement takes only a moment. A range from approximately #24 to 4/0 covers most ordinary tying work, from small dry flies and nymphs through wet flies to streamers and larger patterns. The hook should be inserted deeply enough for a dependable grip, which should be checked before substantial thread tension is applied.
Freedom to position the vise while tying
The head rotates through 360 degrees, allowing the fly to be inspected from either side and from beneath without removing the hook. This makes it easier to assess proportions, wing alignment, hackle distribution and the position of the next material. The head joint also allows its angle to be changed in relation to the stem, bringing the hook into a position that suits both the pattern and the tier’s posture.
Regent Revolving is designed for convenient rotation and positioning, but it is not a true-rotary system that keeps the hook shank precisely on axis while materials are wrapped by continuously turning the head. Its strength is the combination of a traditional secure grip with much clearer access to the complete fly.
The jaw mounting section has a polished-brass finish. The freestanding base does not require an overhanging worktop edge and allows the vise to be used on tables that cannot accept a clamp. It also gives the tier greater freedom to choose the distance from the front of the desk. When materials are pulled firmly, the base should be positioned so that the direction of force does not encourage it to slide.
