Greys Platinum X Nymph Tip F/I Fly Line
Greys Platinum X Nymph Tip is a WF fly line family for nymph fishing and washing-line tactics just below the surface. Its floating main line is combined with a short intermediate tip. Most of the line therefore stays on the surface for manageable line control, while the final section helps carry the flies a little lower. The family covers WF 6, WF 7 and WF 8 profiles, each retaining the same fishing purpose. It is aimed at anglers seeking shallow subsurface presentation without committing the whole line to a sinking density.
Profile and fishing use
The medium-length head balances line control with efficient delivery. It provides enough head to organise the loop when a leader carries a nymph set-up, while retaining a useful section for managing and adjusting the line after it lands. The floating body can be lifted and mended more readily than a fully sinking line, while the short intermediate tip helps draw the leader and flies through the surface film. This change of density retains surface handling while the flies work immediately beneath.
The low-diameter running line is intended to reduce drag as line is released through the guides. Together with the slick, supple coating, it supports easy handling in the hand and clean shooting when extra line is required. Low-memory behaviour helps limit persistent coils after storage, making the running line less troublesome to organise at the start of a session. Welded loops simplify connections within the set-up. At 105 ft overall, this is a complete fly line rather than a separate shooting head and interchangeable running-line system.
- Construction: floating main line with a short intermediate tip.
- Weights: WF 6, WF 7 and WF 8.
- Overall length: 105 ft.
- Handling: medium-length head, low-diameter running line and low-memory coating.
- Design: designed in the United Kingdom; welded loops.
On the water, Nymph Tip preserves much of the line management associated with a floater, yet places the business end just under the surface. This is particularly relevant to washing-line tactics, where the floating body and submerged short tip perform distinct jobs. The profile also makes sense for stillwater nymph fishing and other situations requiring shallow presentation without a fully sinking line. It is a mixed-density arrangement rather than a line that floats throughout: the intermediate density is confined to the short tip, preserving the intended contrast between surface control and subsurface presentation.
