H2O Fish Scale
H2O Fish Scale is a wider synthetic strand material with a scale-like reflective effect for building baitfish profiles. Its broad, flat form can be placed along the side or back of a streamer, creating a distinct lateral layer rather than a group of fine individual flash strands. Combine it with synthetic hair when more body and a controlled outline are required.
Construction and use
Cut sections to the intended wing length and secure them at selected points on the hook shank. Overlap successive layers slightly so the surface stays orderly and the broad accent does not make the fly unnecessarily heavy.
- Side and lateral line Place a strand along the side of the wing or just above the hook to define the scale-like baitfish surface.
- Streamer back A shorter section can form the upper layer; secure it with several tight thread wraps before shaping the rest of the fly.
- Combining materials Pair Fish Scale with bulkier synthetic fibres, leaving part of the strand exposed so its characteristic texture remains visible.
- Trimming Even the ends after tying and control the width with scissors, matching the profile to the hook and streamer size.
