Hardy Marksman Fly Rod
Hardy Marksman is a family of single-handed freshwater fly rods created as the brand’s flagship series. It was designed, developed and tested in Alnwick, England, during Hardy’s 150th anniversary year. The concept addresses the changing demands encountered on rivers and stillwaters, combining light line control at close quarters with the backbone required to form long, fast and accurate loops.
Every rod in the family shares a medium-fast action. This provides a clear sense of the blank loading during casts made close to the angler, while retaining the recovery and power needed to keep a controlled, narrow loop as more line is carried. Hardy positions the Marksman as a series for a broad spectrum of conditions, giving the family a versatile character across flowing and still water.
Construction and series character
Each Marksman is built around a Sintrix FLT blank formed on an updated mandrel design. Hardy states that this material system increases strength and responsiveness while delivering a weight reduction of approximately 10% compared with the preceding Ultralight series. The resulting light, responsive character supports direct line feel and a smooth transition from delicate presentation to a more purposeful casting stroke.
The shared guide system comprises ceramic-lined stripping guides with titanium frames and titanium Recoil intermediate snake guides. The flexible Recoil guides are designed to return to their original position after being deflected. A custom-designed reel seat combines low mass with secure reel retention and contributes to the consistently light construction of the series.
The blank has an understated golden-olive finish with subdued reflection. Aluminium section stoppers complete the specification, and each rod is supplied in a Hardy aluminium tube for protection during storage and transport.
