Hareline 1/2 in. Wide Pseudo Herl
Hareline 1/2 in. Wide Pseudo Herl is a prepared, narrow fibre strip with a 0.5-inch fibre profile, made to be wound on a hook shank. It builds fly and streamer bodies, collars and synthetic hackle. The strip can be wrapped in close turns for a fuller body or positioned more openly to create a broader, mobile outline around the shank.
Construction and use
Expose a short section of the core at the tying point, secure it with thread, and start the strip with a firm turn. Wind with even tension, sweeping the fibres back before each turn so they remain free rather than being trapped beneath the strip. Use it for a continuous body, distinct segments, a collar behind the head, or a synthetic hackle effect. The wide profile suits larger flies and streamers, while turn spacing and tension let the tier control the amount of material built onto the hook.
- Form: prepared fibre strip intended for winding.
- Profile: the fibre profile is 0.5 inch wide.
- Bodies: creates continuous bodies and defined segments.
- Collars: forms full collars and synthetic hackle around the head area.
- Technique: sweep the fibres back before every turn and keep the winding tension even.
