Hareline 8 in. Ice Wing Fiber
Hareline 8 in. Ice Wing Fiber is a long, loose synthetic fibre material for streamer wings and streamlined baitfish profiles. Its reflective surface adds visible flash as the fly moves, whether the fibres form the main wing or a smaller accent layer. The 8-inch length gives the tier room to select, taper and trim fibres for larger hooks, while also allowing one section to be used across several flies.
Construction and use
Work with small, firmly secured bundles rather than a dense clump. Match the amount to the hook size so the wing remains mobile and does not overpower the pattern. The fibres can be layered with other colours, blended into a graduated profile, or trimmed before or after tying. Secure the bundle with several tight thread wraps, then finish the head cleanly.
- Streamer wings Build slim upper wings and leave enough fibre movement for a natural swimming profile.
- Backs and sides Tie a narrow bundle along the top or flank of the fly to create a reflective baitfish accent.
- Fibre control Separate the strands, remove excess, and taper or trim the tips to suit the pattern.
- Length selection Use the full length for larger streamers, or cut it down before forming the head on smaller hooks.
