Hareline Foam Cylinders
Hareline Foam Cylinders are large cylindrical foam blanks for shaping substantial popper heads and predator-fly heads. They are approximately 1.5 inches, or about 4 cm, long, with several diameters available for matching the amount of material to the hook and desired profile. The surface can be shaped after the cylinder has been cut to the required length.
Construction and use
Select the diameter first: 5/8 inch provides less material for a large pattern, while 3/4 and 15/16 inch sizes allow a fuller head to be formed. Cut, sand and shape the cylinder by hand, or use a suitable popper-head cutter or jig. Once fitted to the hook, secure it with broad, controlled thread wraps that distribute pressure rather than cutting into the foam. Form the main profile before adding eyes and other finishing materials.
