Hareline Furry Foam
Hareline Furry Foam is a fuzzy synthetic sheet material that can be cut into strips for winding or cut into individual shapes. It absorbs water and is suited to nymph and caddis bodies, crustacean bodies and claws, and mouse bodies. Its fibrous outer texture adds visible bulk and surface character to a fly without requiring a separate body material.
Construction and use
Before cutting, check the fibre direction and choose a strip width that matches the fly size. Tie in one end and wind the strip with controlled overlap, keeping the fibres aligned, or cut a separate shape such as a crustacean claw or mouse body. Use broad thread wraps so the material is held securely without being cut. After tying, tease the fibres with a needle or brush and trim the outline with scissors. Allow for water absorption when choosing the body profile and finishing the fly.
