Hareline Gray Squirrel Tail
Hareline Gray Squirrel Tail is hair from a gray squirrel tail, with the natural banded arrangement of squirrel fibres. It is used for slim streamer wings, salmon-fly wings and caddis patterns, as well as fine nymph tails.
Construction and use
Cut a bundle from the tail skin and select it for the planned length and wing width. Keep some of the soft, mobile fibres for movement, or remove excess underfur when a tighter bundle is required. Tie the base to the shank with close thread wraps, extending the tie-in along the shank to retain a low profile.
- Material: fine, mobile gray squirrel-tail hair.
- Finish: natural barring provides contrasting bands in the wing.
- Form: tail hair taken from a section of the tail.
- Uses: streamer and salmon-fly wings, nymph tails and caddis wings.
