Hareline Heavy Lead Eyes Large
Hareline Heavy Lead Eyes Large are heavy lead dumbbell eyes for strongly weighting streamers and other flies that need ballast near the head. The mass concentrated in the crosswise pair affects sink rate and can help establish a particular underwater attitude.
Construction and use
Place the eyes crosswise on the hook shank and secure them with strong thread. Make tight wraps around both balls, then use figure-eight wraps between them; additional wraps in front of and behind the eyes help prevent movement. Finish with varnish or resin. Before mounting, check that the eye openings and position suit the hook eye and bend of the hook being used.
- Material: lead provides heavy, concentrated ballast.
- Shape: two balls joined as dumbbell eyes for crosswise mounting.
- Balance: position on the shank affects sink rate and hook-point attitude.
- Mounting: use firm thread wraps and figure-eight tying.
- Selection: check the size variant and its fit with the hook geometry.
