Hareline Kileys Nymph Skins
Hareline Kiley’s Nymph Skins is a soft, stretchy strip for nymph bodies, backs and wing cases. It is approximately 3 mm wide and supplied as approximately 2 yards of material. Stretch the strip to suit the hook and body profile; when secured, it forms a smooth covering or a distinct nymph back.
Construction and use
Tie in the start of the strip at the rear of the body, leaving it attached to the supplied length until the fly is finished if convenient. Build the underbody to the desired shape, stretch the material forward and secure it behind the eye. Tension changes the strip’s width and thickness, so use shorter sections on small nymphs and check the overlap as you wind. For a wing case, a rib can be added in the opposite direction to stabilise the segments. Use broad, moderate-pressure thread wraps: excessive pressure can cut into the soft material. Trim the waste close to the tie-off and cover the thread with a neat finish.
