Hareline Micro Tubing
Hareline Micro Tubing is hollow, elastic body tubing for forming fly bodies and ribs. It can be shaped into slim, segmented nymph bodies and stonefly-style patterns, or wound quickly over the hook shank as a ribbing material. The tubing responds to tension, allowing the tier to adjust its coverage to the taper and profile of the fly.
Construction and use
Select a shade that suits the pattern, cut a working length and tie in one end at the rear of the body. Wind the tubing under even tension, using touching turns for a continuous segmented body or leaving gaps when it is used as ribbing. Secure it at the head with firm thread wraps and trim the waste. When tying over an uneven underbody, keep the tension controlled so the material stays in place and does not become excessively narrow through the later turns. Finish with thread wraps that do not crush the tubing.
- Form: hollow, elastic tubing designed to be wound as a body material or rib.
- Body construction: touching turns create a continuous segmented body covering.
- Ribbing: spaced turns leave the underbody visible and define the fly’s segments.
- Uses: nymph bodies, Charley patterns and stonefly-style flies.
