Hareline Scud Dub
Hareline Scud Dub is a synthetic dubbing blended for scuds, shrimp and other small aquatic organisms. Its relatively coarse fibres create a translucent body with a mild sheen and can be brushed out into distinct legs and an irregular outline. Carefully blended colours produce natural transitions rather than a flat block of a single shade.
Construction and use
Dub it sparsely onto thread, rib the body with wire or monofilament and add a shellback when the pattern requires one. Brush the underside after finishing so projecting fibres suggest legs. Scud Dub also suits larvae and Czech nymphs wherever a luminous, segmented and simultaneously spiky body is more convincing than smooth dubbing.
- Structure: relatively coarse synthetic fibres with a restrained sheen.
- Effect: a translucent body with legs that brush out readily.
- Uses: scuds, shrimp, larvae, Czech nymphs and sowbugs.
- Finish: ribbing, optional shellback and brushing along the underside.
