Hareline Thin Fly Foam 2mm
Hareline Thin Fly Foam 2mm is a thin, closed-cell foam sheet measuring 2 mm thick. Cut it into components for ant, beetle and hopper patterns, or use it for backs and layered terrestrial bodies. Each package contains two 3 × 4.5-inch sheets, providing material for small details as well as larger overlapping layers.
Construction and use
Select the thickness for the profile and the amount of buoyant material required by the pattern. Cut strips, body shapes or wing pieces with sharp scissors, a knife or a suitable punch. Secure the foam with controlled, broad thread wraps so concentrated pressure does not cut it; a thread base on the hook shank can help stabilise a component. Use an adhesive only when it is compatible with foam. Foam thickness contributes to the fly’s buoyant material, but foam alone does not determine whether the finished fly will float: the hook, eyes and other dressing also add weight.
