Hareline Vinyl Rib
Hareline Vinyl Rib is a solid, elastic, translucent half-round ribbing material for building segmented bodies and reinforcing fly patterns. Its flat side is designed to lie against the underbody, while the rounded outer face produces the raised segmentation. The family is offered in Midge, Nymph and Medium profiles, allowing the tier to match the rib to the proportions of the pattern being tied.
Construction and use
Cut a length suited to the fly and tie it in at the rear of the body with the flat side against the tying base. Stretch it forward with the rounded face showing, then secure it at the head. Touching turns create a continuous segmented body; wider spacing produces a more open ribbed effect. Keep the tension even, since stretching narrows and flattens the material. Trim the waste only after the front tie-in is firmly secured, and finish the thread wraps cleanly so the rib remains aligned.
