Hedron Flashabou
Hedron Flashabou consists of flat reflective strands for building and highlighting a fly’s profile. Its smooth form provides a clear flash, while the fine strands retain movement in a streamer wing, tail or along the sides of the pattern. Use Flashabou on its own for a restrained accent or arrange several layers for a stronger visual detail. It is well suited to streamers and baitfish imitations, while small amounts can also be added to selected wet-fly patterns.
Construction and use
Cut a few strands and tie them to the hook shank with even, firm thread wraps. The ends may be evened, left longer or trimmed to match the pattern’s profile. When using multiple layers, separate them with the main fly materials so the strands remain free to move.
- Streamer wing Add reflective strands to the wing or place them between fibre layers.
- Tail and sides Use small amounts as a flashing detail in the fly’s silhouette.
- Quantity Start with a few strands and increase the amount to suit the fly size.
- Trimming Set the final length after tying in and keep it proportional to the profile.
