Loon Amadou Patch
Loon Amadou Patch is a natural amadou fly dryer designed to remove moisture from waterlogged dry flies. Its two absorbent pads draw water from the dressing, helping the fly recover its ability to sit and work correctly on the surface. It is particularly useful after a fly has been submerged, handled during a release or repeatedly cast until its hackle and wing begin to lose buoyancy.
To use it, place the wet fly between the two amadou surfaces and squeeze gently. There is no need to rub or drag the dressing across the material, reducing the risk of disturbing hackle or delicate fibres, including CDC. Once excess moisture has been removed, the fly can be returned to the water or treated with a suitable floatant selected for its particular construction and materials.
The dryer measures 3.25 × 2 in (about 8.3 × 5.1 cm), is reusable and includes a steel tool tether for attachment to a fishing vest, bag or pack. This keeps it readily accessible when a fly needs attention during fishing. After use, leaving the two pads open allows the absorbed moisture to escape before the dryer is stored with the rest of the kit.
