Peak Non-Rotary Vise W/Pedestal Base
Peak Non-Rotary Vise W/Pedestal Base is a complete non-rotary fly-tying vise supplied with standard jaws and a freestanding pedestal base. The PNRV uses the proven clamping system found on the PEAK Rotary Vise, but is intended for conventional tying without turning the hook around the axis of its shank. Its straightforward head keeps the emphasis on direct hook access, thread control and manual placement of materials. It works as a practical station for regular bench use and packs conveniently for travel when rotary tying is not part of the required workflow.
The standard jaws are operated by an adjustment nut and cam lever. The nut sets the jaw opening for the hook-wire diameter, while the lever quickly locks or releases the grip. The jaws can close fully on very fine wire, and their conservatively stated upper capacity is hook wire measuring about 0.044 in in diameter. Seat the hook reasonably deep in the jaws while keeping enough of the bend and point exposed for comfortable access. Set only the clamping pressure needed to prevent the hook from moving: excess force does not improve tying performance, makes the lever harder to operate and can shorten jaw life. The jaws and cam handle are made from hardened tool steel with a black oxide finish.
The freestanding pedestal is slightly smaller and lighter than the base supplied with the PEAK Rotary Vise. Its durable white powder-coated finish protects the surface, and the assembly can be taken apart and packed flat. A 1/8 in hex key is included for assembly. An additional hole in the base accepts PEAK’s optional accessory shaft, which is not supplied with the vise. PEAK accessories are compatible apart from the company’s material clip. Optional Midge and Saltwater jaws must be versions made specifically for the PNRV; jaws from the PEAK Rotary Vise are not interchangeable. For frequent work on the smallest hooks, the sculpted Midge option provides additional clearance around the bend, while the supplied standard jaws remain the more versatile choice for a varied everyday selection of patterns.
