Regal Medallion Series Traditional Jaw and Bronze Traditional Base is a complete fly-tying vise combining Regal’s classic Traditional Jaw with a freestanding solid-bronze base. Its spring-loaded jaw mechanism secures hooks without a screw adjustment for each new diameter: squeeze the lever, position the hook correctly and release it to establish the grip. The stated range of size 22 to 1/0 covers many commonly used dry-fly, nymph, wet-fly and streamer hooks. This straightforward mechanism is particularly useful during sessions that involve frequent changes of pattern or hook size.

The head rotates through 360° and articulates through 220° vertically. These movements make it easier to inspect the fly from every side, check the underside of a body and set a comfortable working angle around the hook bend. On the Medallion Series, rotation is primarily a positioning feature; it is not a true-rotary mechanism that keeps the hook shank precisely aligned with the rotational axis. The heavy Bronze Traditional Base supports the stem without attaching the vise to the edge of a table. It suits a permanent tying station as well as work surfaces on which fitting a C-clamp would be inconvenient or impossible.

This configuration is a considered choice for a tying workflow centred mainly on hooks within the stated range, especially when quick hook changes, firm holding power and flexible head positioning take priority. Insert the hook well within the working faces of the jaws rather than clamping it at their tips. After releasing the lever, test the hold gently before applying strong thread or material tension. Leave only as much of the shank exposed as is needed for comfortable access, and keep the hook point directed away from your hands. Place the base on a clean, level surface and set the head angle before loading the thread. Eye protection is also recommended whenever working with hooks held under pressure.
