Regal Medallion Fly-Tying Vise with Traditional Jaw and C-Clamp
Regal Medallion Series C-Clamp Traditional Jaw is a complete fly-tying vise combining the established Traditional Jaw with a C-clamp mount. This Medallion configuration is rated for hooks from #22–1/0, covering a broad working range from small trout flies to larger nymphs and streamers. Its spring-loaded jaws are operated by squeezing the lever: insert the hook, release the handle and the jaws close without a screw adjustment for each hook size. This straightforward action makes it easy to move between different hooks during one session and keeps repeated tying efficient when a pattern calls for frequent loading and removal.
The head rotates through 360° and articulates through 220°, allowing the fly to be turned over for inspection, the underside of the hook to be reached and the working angle to be adjusted for tails, wings or thread heads. The Medallion is not a true rotary vise that aligns the hook with the axis of rotation. Its rotation is primarily useful for positioning and viewing the fly rather than for controlled in-line wrapping by turning a rotary handle. Before tying, set the head angle so that your hand can approach the hook naturally and confirm that the jaw lever has sufficient clearance from the table, tools and materials.
The C-clamp fixes the vise to the edge of a suitably rigid worktop, leaving the bench surface clear instead of occupying it with a freestanding base. Seat the clamp squarely, tighten it only until the assembly is secure and check that the stem remains steady when thread tension is applied. Place the hook sufficiently far inside the working faces of the jaws rather than gripping it at their extreme tips. Once clamped, test the hold before applying heavy thread pressure or pulling firmly on resistant materials. This model fits a tying station where hooks are changed regularly within its stated range and quick, uncomplicated clamping matters more than true in-line rotary operation. The vise is made in the USA.
