Renzetti Flared Lead Wire and Tinsel Bobbin
Renzetti Flared Lead Wire and Tinsel Bobbin is a dedicated fly-tying bobbin holder for spooled materials that are thicker or stiffer than ordinary tying thread. Its defining feature is a large-bore tube with flared ends. This construction makes it easier to feed lead wire, other wires, tinsel and floss, reduces snagging at the tube edge and lets the tier form successive wraps without repeatedly putting the spool down.
Tapered spool contacts seat the spool and help keep it stable as the material pays out. Resistance is produced by the pressure of the arms against the spool; this model has no separate tension dial or disc-drag mechanism. The arrangement provides direct control of material delivery, while the wider path is less restrictive for wire and flat materials that do not pass comfortably through a narrow thread tube.
Before tying, seat the spool between the tapered supports and check that it turns smoothly with noticeable resistance. If rotation is too tight, spread the arms slightly; if the spool pays out too freely, carefully increase their pressure. Feed the material through the tube without forcing an unsuitable diameter. The larger bore expands the practical material range, but compatibility still depends on the material’s diameter and stiffness as well as the shape of its spool.
Key features for wire and tinsel work
- Large-bore tube with flared ends
- Designed for lead wire, other wires, tinsel and floss
- Tapered contacts help retain and stabilise the spool
- Conventional arm pressure without a separate drag control
- Complete bobbin holder for spooled material, not a threader
