Rio Elite Single-Handed Spey Fly Line
RIO Elite Single Handed Spey is a weight-forward fly line developed around roll casts and single-handed Spey casts. Its weight is biased towards the rear of the head, helping the rod load deeply without requiring a broad back cast. This makes the profile relevant on banks where vegetation, high ground or other obstacles leave little room behind the angler. It is intended for single-handed anglers who want one line for anchored casts and conventional overhead delivery rather than a separate casting system.
Profile and fishing use
The defining feature is the rear-weighted head. During a roll cast or Spey cast, this distribution helps the angler use the rod's flex and control the D-loop within restricted space. Keeping the loading mass closer to the caster also reduces the need to carry a long section of line in the air behind the fishing position. The profile is not limited to anchored techniques: when cast overhead, it forms smooth, controlled loops, allowing the method of presenting the fly to be changed as conditions require.
- Profile: WF with weight concentrated towards the rear of the head.
- Family range: line classes 3-8.
- Density formats: floating F and multi-density F/H/I.
- Construction: low-stretch ConnectCore Plus core with SlickCast coating.
The family comprises two distinct density formats. The F version is a floating fly line, useful when the line needs to remain easy to lift from the surface and reposition. F/H/I is a multi-density construction combining floating, hover and intermediate sections. This allows part of the profile to work below the surface and track more steadily through current or wave, while the floating section assists line control. It is neither a fully sinking line nor a simple sink-tip; the designation describes a graduated combination of densities without establishing a specific sink rate.
ConnectCore Plus limits line stretch, giving a more direct sense of loading while the cast is formed and of contact with the fly. SlickCast provides a smooth, durable outer finish that supports clean passage through the rod rings and controlled shooting of the running line. The complete profile is aimed at anglers using a single-handed outfit where room behind may be restricted, but where the flexibility to alternate between roll, Spey and overhead casts remains useful. Choosing between F and F/H/I depends chiefly on whether the line is required to work at the surface or partly beneath it.
