Rio Elite Tarpon Fly Line
RIO Elite Tarpon is a floating WF fly line developed for tarpon fishing and for delivering large flies in hot conditions. Its short, powerful front taper helps transfer energy cleanly when a cast must be made quickly towards a fish. A long back taper steadies the loop at range and assists both fast line pick-ups and a prompt second presentation to a moving target. The profile is intended for anglers who need authoritative turnover without giving up control during a longer casting stroke.
Profile and fishing use
The profile fits situations in which the casting window is brief: a fish changes direction, the first presentation needs correcting, or a second cast must be made without lengthy preparation. The powerful front section assists turnover of the leader and fly, while the long back taper provides control over line carried in the air. This means the design is not limited to short casts; it also supports stability at greater range and an efficient pick-up from the water.
- Type: floating WF fly line for tarpon fishing.
- Family variants: WF9F, WF10F, WF11F and WF12F.
- Profile: short, powerful front taper with a long back taper.
- Features: SlickCast, SureFire, EasyID and welded front and rear loops.
During the cast, the front taper provides a forceful finish to the presentation, while the extended rear section helps retain control when more line is carried beyond the rod tip.
DirectCore has low memory and can be stretched straight with little effort, allowing the line to lie straight on the water. At the same time, it retains the stiffness required for casting in hot conditions. This combination helps limit coils as the line comes off the reel and gives more predictable handling during quick pick-ups and repeat casts.
The SlickCast coating is used to reduce friction as the line travels through the rod guides. SureFire is a three-colour marking system that enables the angler to judge distance and rod loading at a glance. EasyID provides a printed means of identifying the individual line. Welded loops at both ends simplify connections to the leader and backing, which is useful when changing a set-up beside the water. These are features of a complete fly line rather than a separate sink-tip or shooting line.
The WF9F–WF12F range defines the family profile; line weight should be selected around the rod, leader and fly size being used.
