Rio Premier Gold Fly Line

RIO Premier Gold is a floating weight-forward fly line developed as a versatile trout line. The family extends from WF3F to WF8F, allowing anglers to retain the same head character across a range of rod-line classes and fishing approaches. Its profile combines a long head and extended rear taper with a front taper designed to present flies across a broad span of sizes, from #22 to #2.

Profile and fishing use

Long head and rear taper help the caster keep a greater length of line stable in the air. This matters when extending a cast, managing loop shape and making adjustments to the line after it lands. The profile is useful wherever the angler needs to remain in control of the line and alter its position in relation to the current, rather than relying solely on the quick turnover of a short, compact head.

The weight distribution is also designed to load a fly rod at close range. In practice, this helps the cast develop when only a limited amount of line is outside the rod tip, such as when fishing in restricted space or making a prompt second presentation. The front taper transfers energy progressively towards the leader. It can therefore support a measured delivery with small flies while retaining the ability to turn over larger patterns within the stated size range.

• Type: floating weight-forward trout fly line.
• Family range: WF3F–WF8F.
• Profile: long head with a long rear taper.
• Presentation: front taper designed for flies from #22 to #2.
• Coatings: SlickCast and MaxFloat Tip technologies.

SlickCast is RIO’s proprietary coating technology, used to reduce friction and improve the durability of the line’s surface. Lower friction supports smooth passage through the rod rings and efficient line release during the cast. MaxFloat Tip concerns the coating on the tip section and is intended to increase its buoyancy without adding diameter. Keeping the tip riding higher assists visible line control and makes it easier to lift the line from the surface when preparing the next cast.

RIO Premier Gold is aimed at trout anglers who want a floating line that combines useful short-range loading with control when carrying or managing more line. The long profile suits anglers who make overhead casts, manipulate line on the water and mend to manage drag. Its progressive front taper also allows the presentation to be adjusted for varied fly sizes and situations, whether fishing moving water or stillwater.
