Rite Bobbin Half Hitch Mag
Rite Bobbin Half Hitch Mag is a complete fly-tying bobbin holder combining an adjustable click drag with a specially tapered thread tube. The Mag designation identifies its 2–16 oz tension range, intended for work that calls for firmer thread resistance. Spool drag is set with the brass adjustment wheel rather than by bending spring arms. Its indexed action makes it easier to return to a controlled, repeatable level of tension throughout the tying sequence.
The thread tube is made from surgical stainless steel. Its gently tapered end allows a half hitch or whip finish to be formed directly on the bobbin barrel and then slipped onto the hook eye. This makes it practical to secure completed stages of a pattern without reaching for a separate finishing tool. Rubber O-rings provide a comfortable gripping surface and can also hold the working thread temporarily when the bobbin is set aside.
To fit a spool, unscrew the adjustment wheel, remove the two-part pressure pad, slide the spool onto the shaft and reinstall the pad. Turn the wheel clockwise until the required resistance is reached. Begin with a low setting and increase it gradually, particularly when using finer threads. The stainless-steel tube and stronger drag range also make this model suitable for controlled work with wire supplied on a spool.
