Sage Click Fly Reel
The Sage Click belongs to the enhanced generation of the CLICK series, conceived as a lightweight, modern interpretation of the traditional click-and-pawl reel. Sage classifies the series for all-round freshwater fly fishing. Its character centres on straightforward operation, rapid line retrieval and direct control of the spool with the palm. The adjustable click-and-pawl mechanism provides mechanical resistance as line leaves the reel and helps prevent the spool from overrunning.
The frame and spool are made from 6061-T6 aluminium. The material is cold-forged and tempered before being precision machined, producing a rigid structure within the series’ deliberately minimalist format. Hard anodising protects the surface and improves corrosion resistance. A revised pattern of openings and a ported arbor give the reel its open, technical appearance while retaining the functional simplicity associated with a click reel.
Construction and series character
The spool is built around an ultra-large, concave arbor. Its greater diameter retrieves more line with each turn of the handle and reduces the tendency for line to settle into tight coils. The curved arbor profile increases structural integrity, while porting removes material where it is not required. An enlarged palming rim provides a broad contact area for applying pressure by hand when playing a fish. An ergonomically shaped handle completes the winding arrangement.
A small drag knob adjusts the tension of the pawl mechanism. This adjustment is intended primarily to set spool resistance and control overrun as line is pulled from the reel. The retrieve direction can also be converted between left- and right-hand winding, allowing the reel to be configured for the angler’s preferred hand.
