Sage Dart Fly Rod
Sage DART is a specialised fly-rod family developed for small water, short-range casting and fishing where space is restricted. Its intended settings include intimate streams, clear sections of river and lies bordered by overhanging branches, bankside growth or fallen timber. The series is focused on placing small flies accurately for trout that can react quickly to an uncontrolled cast or an overly forceful presentation.
The family’s close-quarters fast action generates useful line speed at short range. The lower part of the blank loads readily, while the responsive tip helps form narrow, controlled loops without requiring a long line beyond the guides. This character is designed for directing a fly beneath branches, through gaps in cover and into compact lies where an accurate first presentation matters. The angler can feel the blank loading through the casting stroke with little line outside the tip, supporting delicate delivery at close range.
Construction and series character
DART blanks employ Sage’s KonneticHD construction. The process optimises the graphite-to-resin ratio to create a composite with a higher density of fibres. Sage describes the resulting blanks as lighter and stronger, with enhanced recovery, energy transfer and control of the fly line and casting loop. Across the DART family, this material works with the fast action to provide the precise, short-range performance required on compact and heavily enclosed waters.
The finish combines modern graphite construction with restrained, traditional-looking details. The blank is Sapling Green, complemented by bronze thread wraps and gold accents. The guide set comprises a Fuji ceramic stripping guide, ultra-light hard-chromed snake guides and a matching tip-top. A Super Plus cork handle is shaped in a snub-nose half-wells profile, while the up-locking reel seat combines a vera wood insert with bronze-anodised aluminium hardware.
Rods from this generation are made in the United States at Sage’s Bainbridge Island facility in Washington State. The breadth of the family covers several forms of light small-water fishing, extending from subtle presentations with miniature flies and fine leaders to accurate casting in exceptionally confined lies. Each rod is supplied with a tan cloth bag carrying a brown logo and model tag, together with a Portobello-coloured, powder-coated aluminium tube finished with a Sage medallion.
