Sage Spectrum C Fly Reel
The Sage Spectrum C is a versatile family of fly reels designed for a broad range of fishing situations. Every version follows the same practical layout, combining a large-arbor spool, Sage’s sealed SCS disc drag and straightforward resistance adjustment. The design supports efficient line recovery and controlled delivery of line when a fish runs.
The reel is based on a die-cast aluminium construction with machined finishing. Its powder-coated surface provides protection against corrosion and the marks associated with regular use. The drag knob and ergonomic handle are made from machined, anodised aluminium. This combination of production methods creates a functional reel for frequent fishing while keeping operation uncomplicated.
Construction and series character
The vented spool has a broad, concave arbor. Its large circumference increases the amount of line recovered with each turn of the handle and helps the line settle in wider coils. The curved arbor profile contributes to the structural integrity of the spool, while the open design gives a clear view of the line and backing. The frame provides a robust foundation for the spool and drag mechanism, following the handling principles of a modern large-arbor reel.
Line control is managed by Sage’s sealed SCS disc drag with carbon friction components. The sealed assembly is designed to restrict the entry of water, sand, grit and salt into the mechanism. The One Revolution drag knob covers its adjustment range within a single turn. Ten numbered positions and twenty positive detents allow small, deliberate changes and make it easier to return to a previously selected level of resistance.
The reel can be converted between left- and right-hand retrieve to suit the angler’s preferred winding direction. A machined and anodised aluminium handle provides a distinct, ergonomically shaped contact point when line needs to be recovered quickly.
