Spirit River Dazl-Hares Ear
Spirit River Dazl-Hares Ear is a deliberately buggy blend of shaved hare's ear, dyed rabbit fur and micro flash fibres. The natural hairs provide a soft, irregular base, while the small amount of flash enlivens the surface without taking over the pattern. It is an easy material for building convincing bodies when a slightly untidy, insect-like profile is more useful than a perfectly smooth finish.
Construction and use
Use this blend for nymphs, wet flies and emergers, particularly their abdomens and thoraxes. It can be dubbed directly onto the thread and formed into a compact body, then teased lightly with a needle or dubbing brush to release the fibres. Start with a small pinch: the mixed fur builds volume quickly, and controlled application makes it easier to keep the proportions of a slim nymph or delicate emerger.
- Fibre structure: Hare and rabbit fur create the soft base, with micro flash adding small points of life.
- Surface: The blend naturally produces a shaggy, buggy profile with minimal extra work.
- Fly types: Designed for nymphs, wet flies and emergers.
- Handling: Dub in small amounts, form the body, then tease it gently with a needle to free the fibres.
