Spirit River Squirrel Blend

Spirit River Squirrel Blend combines mottled, dyed squirrel hair with Antron. The squirrel fibres give the blend its distinctive barred appearance and a naturally spiky texture, while Antron adds a touch of shine. Rather than producing a perfectly smooth body, this series is intended for flies where an irregular, lively surface is part of the pattern’s character.

Construction and use

It is particularly well suited to nymphs, especially thoraxes and bodies that benefit from a brushed, bristling profile. Add the blend to the thread in thin portions and twist it firmly, building the taper in stages instead of forcing on one large bundle. Once wrapped, use a dubbing brush or needle to free the sharper fibres and define the silhouette.
