Spirit River UV2 Sculpin Wool
Spirit River UV2 Sculpin Wool is a dense, wool-like material for building compact fly heads and bodies. It is tied to the hook shank, then clipped and shaped to create the full profile used on sculpin-style flies. UV2 denotes a treatment that reacts to or reflects ultraviolet light; it does not indicate a stated glow-in-the-dark effect.
Construction and use
Separate a small bundle before tying, place it on the shank and secure it with several firm thread wraps. Trim the excess with scissors, then even out or taper the head and body profile. Additional bundles can be added at selected points to build a broad front, a transition into the body or a more streamlined streamer shape. Choose the colour to coordinate with the body and the available light conditions. The material can also be divided into smaller portions and used as bulky dubbing in a dubbing loop, where the fibres are secured and shaped after wrapping.
- Form: dense, wool-like material for tying in, clipping and shaping.
- Preparation: secure it to the hook shank, then create the profile with scissors and progressive trimming.
- UV2 treatment: provides a UV-reactive or UV-reflective finish without a stated afterglow.
- Uses: sculpin-style heads and bodies, streamers and selected bulky fly details.
