Stonfo FlyTec Base Vise
Stonfo FlyTec Base Vise is a complete pedestal-mounted fly-tying vise distinguished by in-line rotation around the hook. Its stainless-steel shaft runs in two precision ball bearings, giving the head a smooth movement that is easy to control. The head rotates through 360°, rotary resistance is adjustable, and a lock at the 0° position provides a fixed working arrangement when rotation is not required. Once the hook shank has been aligned with the supplied centring gauge, rotating the head makes it easier to inspect the fly from every side, wind materials evenly and check proportions without repeatedly changing hand position.
The hook is secured with the adjustment wheel at the rear of the head. This allows clamping pressure to be increased gradually and matched to the diameter of the hook wire. Three interchangeable hardened-steel jaws are supplied, covering hook sizes from 28 to 4/0. Changing jaws extends the vise’s working range from small flies and nymphs to larger streamers, while the correctly selected jaw leaves practical access to the bend, eye and shank. The bobbin rest keeps the tying thread clear while the head is rotated, and the parachute rest supports an upright post during parachute-style tying. A spring material clip, centring gauge, Allen key and instruction manual are also included.
Before tying, select the jaw that suits the hook, place the hook in its working area and increase pressure only until the hold is secure. Recheck the shank’s alignment after every jaw change, especially when rotation will be used to apply tinsel, chenille or hackle. Set the rotary resistance so that the head turns smoothly without shifting under normal thread tension. The freestanding pedestal allows the vise to be used without attaching it to the edge of a table and makes it simple to reposition the complete tying station. Recesses in the base provide convenient places for keeping hooks, beads and other small components close at hand while working.
