Stonfo Tubefly Vise

Stonfo Tubefly Vise is a purpose-built fly-tying vise for tube flies, supplied on a pedestal base. Instead of clamping a hook in jaws, the tube is carried on a selected pin running through the axis of the head. The set contains five accurately machined stainless-steel pins: 3 conical and 2 cylindrical. This provides a practical choice for many tube diameters and styles without rebuilding the workstation whenever the pattern changes. Select a pin that supports the tube securely without stretching it. With softer plastic tubes, begin with the smaller option and confirm the hold before starting the thread.

The head provides full 360° in-line rotary action on two precision ball bearings. The tube body therefore remains on the rotational axis, supporting controlled wraps of tinsel, chenille, looped dubbing and other materials that benefit from even spacing. Rotary resistance is adjustable: a lighter setting suits continuous wrapping, while additional drag helps keep the pattern steady for tying off, trimming or checking proportions. The double-diameter handwheel gives a comfortable purchase for small corrections as well as longer turns. The head can also be locked at 0° or 180° when a fixed working position is preferred.

Both the tying angle and column height can be adjusted to suit tube length, wing volume and the position of the hands above the bench. It is sensible to set the height and head angle first, secure the adjustments with the supplied Allen key, and then tune the rotary resistance. The pedestal base does not depend on access to a table edge and includes recesses for tubes or small components used in the current pattern. A spring material clip is supplied to hold fibres clear of the tying area between stages. The vise supports the complete tube-fly workflow: mounting the body, making rotary wraps, inspecting the dressing from every side and removing the finished pattern from its pin.
