Thin Wing

Hareline Thin Wing is a thin, soft cuttable wing sheet or film for making fly wings. It is intended primarily for upright mayfly wings, providing a light material that can be cut into a consistent, matched shape for a specific pattern.

Construction and use

Cut a matched pair of wings from the sheet, adjusting their length and outline to the pattern being tied. Place them on the hook shank at the intended angle, check the alignment from both sides, and secure them with sparing, controlled thread wraps. Wide, rigid or asymmetrical wings can create the so-called helicopter effect and twist the leader during casting; careful matching, alignment and trimming help reduce that risk. Finish the edges with scissors and avoid excessive thread pressure so the soft sheet remains neatly positioned.
