Uni Mylar Flat Tinsel #12 (1.2 mm)
Uni Mylar #12 (1.2 mm) is a flat, two-colour tinsel for constructing flies. It is highly stretchable, so it conforms closely to the hook shank and to the adjoining turns while being wrapped. When secured correctly, it forms a compact body covering that helps the finished fly retain its integrity during fishing. Use it as a traditional rib or wrap, or wind it over the entire body for a strong two-colour effect. The 1.2 mm width is suited to larger patterns, particularly wet flies, nymphs and streamers.
Construction and use
The material creates a distinct reflective surface without adding the type of weight associated with weighting materials. Its stretch makes it easier to keep the tinsel close to a thread underbody or to other body materials. Apply steady tension and place successive turns close together when forming a complete body, avoiding gaps between wraps. Tie off the end securely before cutting it free.
