Wapsi Bucktail Medium

Wapsi Bucktail Medium is a medium-format deer-tail hair for streamer and saltwater wings and tails. The fibres are relatively long and stable, so the tier can build slim or layered profiles without excessive spreading under thread.

Construction and use

Select clean guard hair, separate it from the underfur and remove loose fibres from the butt section. Align the tips, place the bundle on the shank and hold it with a few loose wraps before tightening the thread. Additional bundles can be stepped along the shank to control wing volume and match the hook size.

• Material: deer-tail hair with relatively long, stable fibres.
• Format: Medium for streamer and larger fly components.
• Preparation: clean the bundle of underfur and loose fibres.
• Uses: streamer wings and tails, plus saltwater patterns.
