Wapsi Elk Body Hair - Natural
Wapsi Elk Body Hair - Natural is natural wapiti body hair supplied as a patch. It is used for dry-fly wings, caddis-style wing sections and other fly parts that call for a compact bundle of controllable hair.
Construction and use
Select a section with even tips and suitable density, then remove or pinch away underfur near the butts. Align the tips in a hair stacker and place the bundle on the hook shank; a few loose wraps position the material before tighter wraps lock it in place. After trimming the butts, build a thread base so the wing transitions cleanly into the fly body.
- Material: natural wapiti hair from the body area.
- Form: a hair patch that can be sorted by fibre length, diameter and spring.
- Uses: dry-fly wings, caddis constructions and tied hair bundles.
- Technique: clean the butts, stack the tips and tighten the thread progressively.
