Wapsi Faux Fox
Wapsi Faux Fox is an extra-fine, short, tapered synthetic fibre material designed to arrange like natural hair. Its soft, flexible structure builds slim, mobile profiles without adding unnecessary bulk to the fly. It is suited to streamer wings, tails and accents on salmon and Spey patterns. The fibres can also be used as a loose component in dubbing or as a wool substitute when forming a fibrous streamer head.
Construction and use
Separate a small bundle before tying and even the tips when a regular outline is required. For a fuller profile, secure several light bundles rather than one dense bunch, allowing the fibres to move freely. Faux Fox can be layered, blended, tapered or trimmed to shape a gradual transition from the wing to the body. Secure each bundle firmly with wraps placed close to the tie-in point.
- Streamer wings: builds a soft, slim wing with a naturally tapered outline.
- Spey and salmon flies: provides light, flowing synthetic accents.
- Streamer heads: works as a wool alternative for a fibrous head profile.
- Dubbing: a small amount adds a subtle fibrous texture to a dubbing blend.
