Wapsi Fly Foam 3 mm

Wapsi Fly Foam 3 mm is a 3 mm sheet foam material that is supple, tough and resistant to thread cuts. Use the sheet for fuller terrestrial bodies, backs and stacked foam forms. Its thickness provides a larger profile and a useful amount of buoyant material, although the flotation of a complete fly also depends on the hook, eyes and the weight of the other components.

Construction and use

Cut strips or shapes from the sheet with scissors, a sharp knife, a matching punch or a suitable cutter. Select the width and thickness for the required body size; for smaller patterns, trim or sand the edges when needed. Secure the foam with controlled, broad thread wraps so the thread does not cut into it. A thread base or a small amount of compatible adhesive can stabilise a component before further shaping. Combine the foam with the hook and remaining materials while allowing for the finished fly's total weight.
