Wapsi Foam Blocks
Wapsi Foam Blocks is raw foam stock measuring 1.6 × 2 × 4 inches, intended for making custom fly bodies. A single block can be shaped into a popper head, slider body or another profile matched to the hook and the construction being tied.
Construction and use
Slice the block with a sharp knife or suitable cutter, then drill, bore and sand it as required. Mark the profile first, allowing for the hook shank, eye position and tying points, and remove material gradually to keep both sides even. Secure the finished component with controlled, broad thread wraps so the thread does not cut into the foam. A thread base or compatible adhesive can help stabilise a mounting point when appropriate. The amount of foam affects the component profile and buoyancy, while the complete fly is also influenced by its hook, eyes and other dressing materials.
