Wapsi Foam Cylinders. Hoppers. 3/16 is cylindrical foam stock with an exact 3/16-inch diameter, intended for hopper bodies, extended bodies and segmented fly components. Each cylinder is over 1 inch long, giving the tier a useful length of material to cut for the hook size and the intended body profile without joining several pieces.

Construction and use

Cut the cylinder to length with sharp scissors or a knife, then shape the ends when needed to fit the hook shank. Secure it with controlled, broad thread wraps; concentrated pressure can cut into the foam. A thread base or compatible adhesive may help stabilise the component when the mounting method calls for it. The thicker cylindrical stock provides more buoyant material, but the flotation of a finished fly also depends on the hook, eyes and the weight of the remaining dressing.
