Wapsi Foam Parachute Posts. Large are ready-made soft foam posts for the upright post of a fly tied in parachute style. The larger format suits bigger patterns where a visible, stable point is needed for winding the hackle. Each piece is pre-cut for this role and ready to mount on a thread base.

Construction and use

Position the post upright on a prepared thread base and secure it with controlled, broad wraps. The soft foam ties readily, but excessive tension can deform or cut it. Wind the hackle around the post, keeping the turns even from the base upwards. Before tying, the piece may be coloured with a permanent artist marker; allow the ink to dry first. A visible foam post does not by itself make the complete fly float: the hook, eyes and other dressing materials also affect buoyancy.
