Wapsi Furry Foam
Wapsi Furry Foam is a flexible sheet with a soft foam centre and a flocked, fuzzy exterior. It builds strongly textured nymph, stonefly and crustacean bodies, and it can also be wrapped around other fly components. The sheet can be separated to produce a thinner material for smaller or more delicate applications. Its fuzzy surface gives the body a different texture and handling from smooth sheet foam.
Construction and use
Cut a strip with sharp scissors or a knife, matching its width to the hook size. For a thinner application, separate the layers before cutting. Tie the strip in and wrap it as a body, keeping the turns close with a slight overlap; broad thread wraps help protect the soft centre. Secure the material at the head and trim the excess. If additional stability is useful, first test a compatible adhesive on an offcut, then apply it sparingly at the tie-in point.
