Wapsi Grizzly Hen Saddles
Wapsi Grizzly Hen Saddles are hen saddle feathers with a distinctive barred grizzly pattern. Their soft, mobile barbs move readily in the water and add life to the fly. They are well suited to paired tails on poppers and bass bugs, as well as matuka-style constructions. Saddle feathers generally offer a longer usable section concentrated in fewer sizes than a cape, so selection should focus on the required length and the specific pattern.
Construction and use
For a paired tail, choose two feathers with a similar shape and place them with their convex sides together. For a matuka, select a feather with a width that fits the body, then arrange the barbs to suit the construction. Feather length and width determine how well the material fits the intended fly.
